Is Kalimat.chat private and encrypted?
Kalimat.chat always encrypts your media, and the protection level depends on the meeting mode — an in-meeting security badge always shows the level actually in effect. Meetings created with end-to-end encryption, and 1-on-1 Basic peer-to-peer calls, are end-to-end encrypted: audio and video are encrypted in your browser with AES-256-GCM, and Kalimat's servers relay data they cannot read. If the host turns on AI features in an end-to-end encrypted meeting, everyone is notified; audio is then processed to create captions and notes, while video stays end-to-end encrypted. Server-routed meetings — and any meeting while recording or livestreaming is running — are encrypted in transit instead. Meeting content such as chat, transcripts, and summaries is deleted from Kalimat's servers about 30 minutes after the meeting ends; recordings are saved on your own device.
Do participants need to download an app or create an account?
No. Kalimat.chat runs in the web browser on desktop and mobile (iOS Safari and Android Chrome). Guests can join a meeting from an invitation link without creating an account.

Yes — calls between Kalimat.chat users are free anywhere in the world, over the internet, in the browser. Kalimat.chat connects app-to-app: users can ring a VoIP call directly to other Kalimat users via their email address or their phone number registered with Kalimat, as long as the other person has Kalimat open in a browser tab (in the foreground or in the background). All call traffic is web-based and does not go through a PSTN phone network. Direct messaging between Kalimat users is also available.
Does Kalimat.chat work on mobile phones?
Yes. Kalimat.chat works on iOS Safari and Android Chrome with video, audio, chat, and hand raising. Some desktop-only features, such as screen sharing, are not available in mobile browsers.
